The individual in this position will be responsible for performing cutting edge research, design and optimization of membranes for filtration and removal of ultra-fine particles and ions. Responsibilities may include lacquer preparation and hands-on development of melt cast, stretching, and/or immersion casting processes. This involves, but is not limited to, formulation and mixing, membrane casting unit operations, testing and characterization, and the building of test stands or other equipment. The individual will also support other groups within membrane R&D such as surface chemistry, analytical, etc. This will be a “hands-on” position involving working in the laboratory 70-80% of the time with bench and pilot scale equipment and solvents at high temperature. There will be tight integration and collaboration with the device group. Knowledge of mechanical design, extrusion and device fabrication methods is a plus.

    In this role you will

    • Develop new state-of-the-art membranes and improve existing processes for better efficiency and yield.
    • Perform hands-on work to design and perform experiments on a day-to-day basis to understand membrane properties and the related chemical engineering processes.
    • Assist in appropriate analytical testing, document results accurately, interpret and communicate findings as appropriate in a timely manner.

Traits we believe make a strong candidate

    • BS/MS in Chemical Engineering
    • 1-2 years relevant hands-on R&D lab/pilot experience
    • Polymer and Materials science knowledge a plus
    • Must have a solid understanding of chemical engineering principles
    • Must have mechanical aptitude and strong math and problem-solving skills
    • Must be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and able to interact and communicate effectively with team members and others within the organization
    • Must have a sense of urgency and unwavering resolve to meet project timelines
    • Must be able to work collaboratively, and think independently and creatively

Your success will be measured by
