The PMO Leader heads up the team that ensures new products are effectively and quickly brought to market by the Division.  As a critical player in our business success, he or she serves as a business process expert driving the continuous improvement of project management and portfolio management best practices.  The PMO Leader creates a vision and roadmap to keep our methodologies fresh and on the leading edge.  They work to ensure the success of projects managed by the PMO globally - achieving on time completion, meeting budgetary requirements, and assuring quality.


  • Ensures uniform and effective application of project and portfolio business processes throughout the MC division globally;
  • Serves as a champion for the phase-gate and portfolio management processes. Communicates process changes and provides training and consulting on the process;
  • Drives the development and adoption of project management best practices and NPD process improvements within the business unit;
  • Conducts portfolio level resource analysis to balance capacity with demand;
  • Supervises a staff of project managers in multiple locations globally;
  • May directly manages one or more projects. Assures successful completion of assigned programs by constant direct management and oversight from beginning to end;
  • Takes care that resources are appropriate and sufficient to meet project or program goals. Develops thorough, realistic plans that support organizational objectives, based on a thorough understanding of what needs to be done. Effectively allocates resources and time;
  • Analyzes project trade-offs and requests changes in scope, schedule and resources when needed;
  • Establishes metrics to assess the overall success of projects. Implements tracking systems to monitor financial elements of project and manages project financial expenditures to ensure budget compliance;
  • Communicates effectively to senior management as required to provide a clear understanding of project status, risks, and decisions;
  • Some minimal travel and evening conference calls are typical to communicate with overseas staff.




  • Must have a B.S. in engineering or science plus 5 years project management experience. 7+ years overall experience;
  • Mechanical engineering, chemical engineering or material science preferred;
  • Must have experience and deep understanding of phase-gate product development processes;
  • Understanding of project portfolio management methods;
  • Ability to communicate effectively to all levels within the organization and across culture;
  • Solid experience in preparing project proposals, plans, schedules and budgets, as well as detailed reports and presentations;
  • Ability to work on problems that are complex and global in nature where independent judgment and a high degree of initiative is required for resolving problems and making recommendations;
  • Skilled in Microsoft Project;
  • Experience with Sopheon Accolade software is a plus;
  • PMP Certification is a plus.
