The Mold Technician is responsible for disassembling, polishing, cleaning, changing inserts, reassembling molds, and performing basic mold trouble-shooting, machining, and other duties as assigned.  Disassembles production molds, cleans molds following standard procedures, and reassembles such as required.  Completes other duties as assigned.


  • Understands and demonstrates the need to support production by having tools Green Tagged as needed. Ability to repair tools in the press if possible to allow quick turn-around with issues as they arise within competency level. 
  • Maintains current and appropriate documentation in mold files.
  • Completes all job related documentation.
  • Maintains min/max inventories of mold polishing supplies. Incumbent has knowledge of mold polishing process and efficient application of product to produce required surface finishes on tool steel.
  • Works independently in project planning and executing the completion of mold polishing.
  • Operates all mold polished equipment at a high level of competency.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems related to mold cycling and mold function in the press.
  • Focuses on key business processes to influence customer satisfaction, waste elimination, growth, cost effectiveness and product/system quality. Promotes and implements use of continuous improvement tools to eliminate non-value activities. Participates actively in continuous improvement activities such as 6S, Kaizen events, etc.
  • Completes miscellaneous tasks as assigned in support of the larger organization and production goals.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area. Wears required Personal Protective Equipment.  Performs duties in a safe manner and observes approved safety procedures. Communicates potential hazards immediately to supervisor. 


  • High school diploma. Two years of experience working in a manufacturing environment.  Ability to demonstrate problem solving and mechanical troubleshooting skills.  Ability to read and understand work instructions and perform math computations and computer data entry.  Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb a ladder up to 15 ft. and walk and stand during entire shift.  Ability to perform repetitive pushing and sliding of mold plates and mold inserts.  Periodically, this position requires repetitive hand, wrist, and grasping of objects with fingers for extended periods of time.   Ability to visually detect quality defects. 
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment for extended periods of time.
